Parramatta hooker Reed Mahoney seen dining with the Bulldogs

The Canterbury Bulldogs have attempted to lure Reed Mahoney away from Parramatta, wining and dining the star hooker over a Chinese meal at Canterbury Leagues Club on Tuesday night.

Mahoney was filmed by a patron at the restaurant sitting next to Canterbury coach Trent Barrett, with the Bulldogs looking to swoop as he weighs up an offer from the Eels.

Parramatta aren’t willing to pay Mahoney â€" who was on the verge of Queensland Origin selection before getting injured earlier this year â€" the $700,000 his manager is asking for.

Mahoney’s manager Sam Ayoub was with his client at the dinner, which also included new Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould and chairman John Khoury.

The Eels don’t want to lose Mahoney, who is considered by many at Parramatta as a future club captain, but also want to balance their salary cap to keep the likes of Clint Gutherson, Isaiah Papali’i and Junior Paulo together.

The Bulldogs are believed to be out of the race for Brandon Smith, who is being chased by the four Queensland clubs, opting to throw their hat into the ring for Mahoney instead.

Mahoney is contracted to the Eels for 2022 but is free to negotiate with rival clubs for the 2023 season.
